The Organ
The organ was originally built by Messrs. Ingram and Co., of Hereford in 1891. It was situated temporarily in the nave of the building before the construction of the chancel. It had 19 speaking stops and tracker action throughout, by 1936 however it was in a perilous state.
In 1938 the organ was complete rebuilt by Messrs. Nicholson and Co. (Worcester), Ltd. The specification was drawn up by the organist Mr T A Perks in consultation with Mr Lambert, General Manager of Nicholson’s. The organ was rescaled throughout, enlarged, and the action was converted to electro pneumatic. The console is situated on the south side of the choir with the organ in a chamber on the North side. The console is a radiating tab stop type by Walker, the keys having a top resistance, it is extremely ergonomic. The instrument was dedicated on 24th November 1938 by Sir Sydney Nicholson M.V.O., Mus.Doc.
