Music at Holy Trinity

For two thousand years music has enriched the worship of the Christian church.  Since it’s foundation in the 19th Holy Trinity has had a choir. Originally the choir consisted of boys and men, and later, in the early part of the 20th century, Holy Trinity was pioneering in the introduction of girls into the choir.

Today at Holy Trinity there is an active musical program including several choirs, outreach projects, and choral and organist workshops.  The main focus of the music programme is the parish choir which consists of 15 junior choristers aged from 7 and 15 adults and is run by a professionally trained Director of Music and Assistant Organist.  The primary role of the parish choir is to provide music for the Sunday morning Eucharist, but the choir also has an active concert programme and frequently travels around the diocese to sing services in the rural churches and Hereford Cathedral.  The choir has been on several tours to places outside of the diocese, including Buckfast Abbey, St David’s Cathedral, Cork and Cobh Cathedrals.

What the choristers say:

'I've sung in two BBC broadcasts with the choir and I have also made a series of short films – both were great fun!  I really enjoy Christmas, especially the Nine Lessons and Carols.  There were about 600 candles and so many people there were no empty seats.’ Miranda
‘The director of music is young and energetic. I joined Holy Trinity during my gap year and had a fantastic time. The choir is very welcoming and friendly and sings a wide range of music’ Katie

Singing in the choir is excellent for children as it helps to develop their reading and concentration skills, teaches them how to read music, and encourages them to be part of a professional and successful team in a secure environment.

Choir practice is on Friday evening at 6pm for junior choristers and 6.30pm for adults and finishes at 7.30pm.  There is also a short rehearsal on a Sunday morning at 9am before the Eucharist.  The junior choristers receive remuneration which increases as they become more experienced members of the choir.

The choir has received generous financial and practical support from the following charities:

Wiggins Community Fund – New Yamaha Piano
Pilling Trust – New robes
English Hymnal Company – Sheet Music
Brereton Memorial Fund – Sheet Music
